LIRA
The Laurier Insurance and Risk Association (LIRA) is a student run club at Wilfrid Laurier University, acting under the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics. We aim to teach, encourage, and connect Laurier Students to the insurance industry. We host events throughout the year designed to educate students about the field while also giving them the chance to put themselves out there through networking sessions and case competitions.
LIRA is committed to creating awareness for the insurance and risk management industry among the students at Wilfrid Laurier University. LIRA strives to connect students with insurance industry professionals through the AIM program, that provides students with one-on-one networking and mentorship from industry professionals. AIM builds long-lasting relationships that help grow a students network and provide realistic insight of careers within the industry.

AIM Program
What is AIM?
The Assigned Industry Mentorship program (AIM) is designed to introduce students to the insurance industry. It was founded in 2018 and has been growing ever since, with the main goal of the program being to allow students one-on-one networking with a professional from the Industry. Students will be able to learn from the best in business and they will even be able to choose what specific section within the industry they want to learn about, whether that be brokering, claims, underwriting etc. This program is designed to prepare students for potential co-op placements and possible career opportunities by learning from professionals. 2023/24 Events
LIRA Kickoff Luncheon
September 16th, 2023
This event is meant to introduce students to the Insurance field and the opportunities it encompasses. We aim to bring in industry professionals and various sponsors to get to know the LIRA team as well as the students of Lazaridis.
Insurance 101
November 20th, 2023
Insurance 101 is a great place to learn about the fundamentals of the insurance field and continue developing connections within the industry. The event consists of a Q&A panel with industry professionals, followed by an open networking session.
AIM Winter Kickoff

LIRA's AIM program gives students the chance to learn more about the insurance industry while making meaningful connections. Each student will be paired with an industry professional and they will learn from their mentor during monthly coffee chats.
Annual Case Competition
March 10th, 2024
Students will compete in a multi-day, case event working on an insurance and/or risk based case and a marketing based case. These presentations will be judged by industry experts in the respective fields and cash prizes will be awarded to the tops teams. We plan to work with a Lazaridis club or another school that has a risk/insurance student club.

Experience the CIBC and ORIMS Insurance Management Event on March 22nd! Dive into the fundamentals of risk management with insightful presentations and interactive case-based workshops led by industry professionals. Connect with peers over lunch and take advantage of the opportunity to enhance your professional profile with complimentary headshots.

Students join us on an adventure to Toronto's downtown core, featuring office tours and networking with executives from some of the biggest insurance companies in Canada. If virtual, the event flips to a speaker event with each sponsor company running educational yet informative presentations, which include a virtual office tour.
